Bern ~ more

Bern has 11 historical fountains.
These colorful 16th c structures were to show off the town's wealth.

They still provide cool alpine water + were charming discoveries
as we walked along the old cobble stone streets.

of note: these original city walls had underground storage cellars.
See them along the lower left side =above?
Most are still being used in creative ways.
And...this cellar below was for the city's wine storage..
Original paintings on walls of this lovely restaurant...
....and lounge area.

Bern, SW

The old town is packed into a peninsula and bounded by the Aare River.
Their 15 c. Cathedral, above the Aare River
....can be seen from "where ever"
Since that 330 ft. tower was added ! ~ 1893.
The highest in Switzerland ! Realllllly !
Einstein worked at the patent office here in Bern.
He and his wife w/ first child lived in this upstairs apt. 1901-09

Across the bridge is the Berlin Historical Musee ~ below

It has a really extensive history of Einstein + life. And....
...an "Infinity" interior corridor.

Zurich ~ largest city in Switzerland ! 1.9 million folks

And yet, it was easy to get around in this huge city.
Trams are always available... or take a low riverboat along these city streets.
One sunny afternoon we took a larger lake boat / cruise
out 'n about on Lake Zurich.

City view ~  from the boat

one lake stop

We arrived and departed from their Hauptbahnhof ~ 3 level station
with 2,000 arrivals/departures daily. Fun to see all the activity !
